Jorberron: Reborn

The Return to Adderport

If only it were that easy.

With the Temple of Kha’shazul sacked and its inhabitants slain, the Walking Dead left the Temple grounds and began their trek back to Adderport. The group travelled for 4 sweaty, bug-ridden days and finally found their way back to the road to Adderport.

The morning of the 4th day, both Knyana and War were cursed by an agonizing pain. War fell to his knees while clutching his face, while Knyana fell to the ground while clutching her thigh. After 30 seconds the pain reduced to a dull ache then to an irritating itch. It was revealed that War’s face was once again marred – on his nose and left cheek was acidic, lime green mark (similar to a dragonmark)that seemed to pulse. While Knyana’s thigh was marked with a dead black dragonmark-like symbol. The group was very curious but eventually realized that nothing could be done until that got back to Adderport. Since the pain had been reduced to an itch the group travelled on.

After a short period on the road proper the group found their way blocked by a tall, haughty woman; a dark, cloaked individual; and two soldiers of the Emerald Claw. The woman commanded the group to hand over an object called the Demon’s Eye, or else suffer at the hand of the Knightly Order of the Emerald Claw. The Walking Dead who do not seem to take orders from anyone engaged the brigands. As the group attacked, 10 more Emerald Claw soldier appeared from hiding. The foot soldiers were not able to do much to stop the Walking Dead, and proved to be more fodder than soldier – but fanatical none the less. The cloaked figure whispered to War that he would feast on his and his companion’s blood before letting forth a burning, eldritch blast into War’s chest. War was able to counter with a might swipe of his axe revealling the shoulder and partial torso of a warforged. As the battle turned in favor of the Walking Dead, both the femaler leader and the cloaked warforged appeared to transport away from the battle. The remaining soldiers did not prove much of a challenge for the group. White Recluse demanded the surrender of the last standing soldier. The fanatic cried, “Never!”, and plunged a dagger into his own throat.

With yet another threat taken care of, the group searched the bodies for any useful items. Upon doing so, White Recluse found that one soldier was still breathing shallowly. After stripped the soldier of armor and weapon the revived him. The man quickly tried to run but Knyana, in girallion form, was able to easily grapple the man into submission.
The group said that they had some questions for the man. He reponded by spitting in White Recluse’s face.

The interrogation of the Emerald Claw prisoner appeared to end fruitless and in his death. Shortly afterwards though, WhiteRecluse announced the he knew the location of the Adderport Emerald Claw enclave. As the group was cleaning up evidence of the battle, they noticed that Brillblade was gone. Erky thought that Brillblade went off to secure a perimeter. WhiteRecluse pursued.

White Recluse easily caught up to Brillblade who was meditating less that 1/2 mile away from the scene of the interrogation. They had a conversation which ended with Brillblade seeking to leave the group. The rest caught up and headed back to Adderport.

The Walking Dead arrived at Adderport after dark and found that the gates were closed. They were directed to the harbor where others congregated after dark. Knyana, was easily able to mist into the town and head to Shirev’s Manor where she was given a note that said Sur’kil was awaiting their arrival on the Swift Wind.

The group made their way back to the ship and disclosed almost everything about their expedition. Sur’kil was very interested and surprised at many points in the story. And indicated that he wished to have a few days to study Slag’s and Knyana’s marks and research some stories that may be connected the events that the party has been through.

That night, after some harsh words with Brillblade, the group (minus Brillblade) sought their vengeance against the Emerald Claw of Adderport. It was a quick assault which ended frustratingly as the Captain Dura and Thirst almost unexplainably were able to get away but not before being injured, nor before Dura rebuked Lucan into a cowering mess. The rest of the Emerald Claw were slaughtered and the group escaped notice of the Adder Guard. Using his hat of disguise, Slag, impersonated Dura and set Scallion’s Supplies on fire so that the guard were witness.

In the 2 days following the assault, the group were able to trade and sell items that they acquired and purchase material for new items for WR to forge. Sur’kil, studied Slag and Knyana.
At the end of 2 days Sur’kil called the group back to the Swift Wind.

Sur’kil revealed that their story was similar to the story about Jheamast, an ancient Sarlonan explorer. Jheamast sought a weapon to use against an unknown enemy back in Sarlona. No direct account places Jheamast at the Temple of Kha’shazul, but after one expedition in Q’barra Jheamast and some of his party “gained” aberrant dragonmarks similar to Knyana and Slag. Though, according to the stories, Jheamast’s party was consumed by these marks within the course of a year. Only Jheamast survived.
Sur’kil believes that finding Jheamast’s tomb in Lhazaar Principalities, may help to determine how and why Jheamast survived while his party didn’t. Additionally, this may shed some light on the Demon’s Eye and why the nefarious Emerald Claw are after it.

Sur’kil chartered the vessel, The Dying Son, for the group to take to the Lhazaar Principalities, while he heads west to Korranberg to continue research into the accounts of Jheamast. Erky, decided to travel with Sur’kil to Korranberg to research Flamecaster. Lucan, decided to head back to Sharn to begin what he believes to be the long process of hunting Calderus down.

Feel free to add any other details, I may have left out.

Comments

I’m going to take a moment to concentrate on the man using my Helm of Telepathy while Slag roughs him up a bit.

The Return to Adderport

I’ll concentrate on him for three rounds while the others stand around him intimidating. I’ll walk in a slow circle around him my eyes fixed on his, staring him down.

Rourgh will stand between his legs and growl and drool acid froth onto the ground.

The Return to Adderport

I growl in his face and hold the edge of my axe near his face.

The Return to Adderport

I spark my lightning gauntlet so he can see the energy flux from the iron glove. I’ll flex the fingers so he can see the arcs jump between my fingers. Then I’ll run the glove near his armor tracing his shape in the air an inch or so from him. I’ll talk to him about how his “metal armor is a great conductor for the lightning that will end his life. But that’s not realistic. I’ll only put enough energy into his body to stop his heart. Then in a moment, my dead friend will heal you back to the land of the living so you can suffer my questions again until you have satisfied me.”

“Where is your Emerald Claw base exactly? Who is your commander? Why do you seek the Demon’s Eye?”

In between each question, I’ll calm the energy from my gauntlet and run the actual mailed glove on his armor slowly, then to touch his bare skin, then suddenly I’ll clutch his arm firmly and scream in his face.

Intimidate check 20 (altogether), 12, and 18 for the three questions.

The Return to Adderport

(I have a -3 Charisma modifier, but my looks should add to the intimidation factor, though, right?)

Intimidation checks: 1 (altogether), 1 (altogether), and 14 (altogether).

The Return to Adderport

The Emerald Claw Knight sets his jaw and glares at War and White Recluse as they try to intimidate him. Though, the Knight’s glare does break for a moment when WR brings his lightninged glove towards him, but stubbornness is quickly pulled back in place as he spits on White Recluse’s masked face.

WR: You Helm does burrow it’s way through the man’s mind. The Knight has an INT score of 9. The initial surface thoughts include a desire to not die, but is willing to die in the line of duty and to not betray his fallen brethren.
The Knight’s thoughts turn towards repeating his name and place of birth: Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath. Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath. Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath.
As you ask your questions, Sarnol, thinks that he will never tell you about the Enclave under Scallion’s Supplies in Adderport. Neither will he betray his commander Dura Ir’Matellan out of loyalty nor the Blood of Vol emissary, Thirst, out of fear. And Sarnol is glad that he knows nothing about the Demon’s Eye.
Your scream then disrupts his train of thought and he falls back into repeating his mantra: Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath…..

The Return to Adderport

The Emerald Claw Knight, Sarnol, spits in WhiteRecluse’s masked face again.

The Return to Adderport

I’ll continue my questioning as I continue to circle him and focus on his thoughts. I’ll pause in between each question and lock eyes with him awaiting a legitimate response. I’ll watch his body language and facial expressions to confirm what he says or confirm his thoughts.

“What is your name soldier? Why have you used such poor judgment to ally yourself with the misguided Emerald Claw? What true or worthy aims have they ever had? Why would you risk your life for an order that didn’t seem to have any qualms about leaving you here to die? Tell me what I want to know or you will be as worthless to me as you were to them.

Sense Motive: 12, 4, 3, 9— but hopefully the ESP will give me what I want to know.

Then an electricity scare an inch from his face. Then more questions.

“Why do you owe them any debt? Why don’t you quit and go home? What recent mission has your sect succeeded at? This line of the Emerald Claw can never bear fruit. You’re better off to quit them and go home. If you tell me what I want to know, perhaps you _can _still go home.”

If he’s not piping any responses by now. I’ll give him one last chance. Examining his thoughts the whole way.

“There is a way with a future. If not, you resign yourself to a life of torment as you travel with us in a constant state of pain. Your muscles will be shriveled, your strength sapped, your mind occasionally stuppored. You will receive lightning treatments and poison daily. If you die, we will raise you from the dead and start the torture all over again. I have lived for a long time and I don’t tire easily, but when I bore of you as my pain puppet, I will give you to my undead friend who will bend you to her will. You will sacrifice your vein blood daily as she feeds on your waning essence. This is your last chance. TELL ME WHAT I WANT TO KNOW!”

The Return to Adderport

1st response). “I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath. I hear the stench of Cyre in your voice. You know nothing of country or duty. I will not listen to your lies! It does not matter what happens to me. I have given my life to the Order for the greater good. When you murder me, they will avenge both me and my fallen brethren.”

He begins to mutter his mantra, “I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath. I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath. I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath. I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath…”

2nd response). As you mention “raising the dead” and “undead friend”, Sarnol sneers, "Idiot! I am Karrnathi! My country breathes undeath! I have seen much more powerful and fearful beings on the streets of Atur than whatever mindless body you may be dragging around. Just kill me ad be done with it. Resurrection is a myth and (he looks at you disgustedly) you do not look like one you can make myth into reality. spits

He begins again to mutter his mantra, “I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath.

What he voices are also his thoughts.

The Return to Adderport

“When I prove you wrong, you will know there is a better way than undeath. What would you give to witness this myth as reality?”

The Return to Adderport

He thinks: “Stop letting him provoke you.”

He says: “I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath.

The Return to Adderport

“Sarnol, I know more than you could possibly believe and am capable of more than you can imagine. I can tell that for some reason you wish you could see someone resurrected. Tell me what it is. Someone you loved died in unfortunate circumstances, maybe in the Last War. But your superiors refused her unlife… You want so much to see her again… Now that she has been gone so long, RESURRECTION might be the only way.”

The Return to Adderport

He says: “I will not believe your lies, Cyran Bastard. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath. I am Sarnol Hephitolov of Vedykar, Karnnath. Knight of the Order of the Emerald Claw, the true sons of Karrnath…”

The Return to Adderport

“Do you see these teeth?!”

I’ll pull out the teeth from Sosetari and show them to him.

“These teeth belong to a woman who cared about me. She watched over me. She defended me. She’ll be the next one that I bring back to life. Using these teeth. The one you loved could be resurrected second. You know where her grave is or you have some lock of her hair, don’t you? That is all we need to bring her back to you.”

“And if it matters to you, I am not originally from Cyre. I fought for them for a time, but then they betrayed me. They betrayed my warforged axeman also. I have no allegiance there. My only allegiance is to the ones you see around you. We follow no order and we survive because we fight for each other.”

Reading his mind all the while.

The Return to Adderport

Thoughts are in bold
Word are in normal font

Perhaps I can convince this deluded fool that I am trustworthy.

Sarnol cries out, “Okay, okay you are right. I joined the Order under the false promise that my father and brother would be raised to undeath, or if I proved myself, back to life. If I help you, will you help me? What assurances do I have?”

The Return to Adderport

Everyone make Sense Motive checks please.

The Return to Adderport

Knyanna sighs…(sense motive 35)Looking at Lucan and back to Recluse…“WR will you talk with me?” If yes I will take him off to the side and ask “what did you read from this man?”

to all: “I am not a pawn or a threat to take any lives and will not be a part of this foolishness. If he is to go to Dohlur then let him choose this. I am not the mast of his fate and will not leverage it. His champions are weak and ran…We will make no bargains or be bought by no other mans fates but our own. Let him go or send him to the his death.”

The Return to Adderport

Sense Motive: 8

The Return to Adderport

Knyana: The Emerald Claw Knight is obviously feeding your group a line.

Slagg: You think that WR is finally getting to the fleshy knight.

Gorillian Lucan: continues to hold the non-struggling man.

The Return to Adderport

Sense motive 19, though I don’t think I need it considering I’m reading his thoughts, right?

Openly “Knyana, do you have any designs on converting him?”

The Return to Adderport

WR: You doubt that you would need the Helm to tell that Sarnol is up to something.

The Return to Adderport

Erky: “Don’t believe him! He is lying!!!”

Sarnol thinks, Damned Zil!

The Return to Adderport

Convert? No…If he were interested in the truth of the Emerald Claw and Blood of Vol and realize his true power and the control he has gripping him then I am willing to speak to him. My guess is this man is not motivated by anything but power and wealth.

Knyanna will look at the human…what is your purpose in life fighter of the Emerald Claw?

The Return to Adderport

Sarnol appraises Knyana in an almost indecent way. Then says, “I am a true son of Karnnath. I live to see Karrnath resurrected to its former power and it’s people to their former glory. Through the Claw and the Blood, the Red Wolf (Karnnath) will rise again and rule Kemenyara as in the days past. I will see this happen, whether in life… or undeath.”

WR: Sarnol did have some indecent thoughts about your friend and truly does believe what he is proclaiming – as though the thoughts have been repeatedly drilled into his head – that is all there is.

The Return to Adderport

there is no undeath or life for you! Your intentions are as Morgoth. You will be lost to the God’s in Dohlur…Cut his throat.

Knyanna looks to her friends in anger of this filth of a man…?

The Return to Adderport

“Sarnol, your time here is done. Know that you will never reach undeath. Your remains will never be found by your brethren to animate you.”

“Slag, if you want the blood, choose your blade and end him painfully.”

The Return to Adderport

Sarnol, “Fools! The Blood’s Undead will defeat the Sovereigns and free me from Dolurrh! But you will be left to fade to nothing!”

Knyana, you recognize much of Sarnol’s rants as Blood of Vol propaganda – something that you once truly believed yourself.

The Return to Adderport

Slag will coup de gras him by taking his head off with his axe, then bask in the outpouring blood from his neck hole.

The Return to Adderport

WR: Sarnol glares directly at you as Slag’s axe falls and severs his head. The last thing you “hear” in Sarnol’s head is Duty, Purpose, with a hint of Fear.

Lucan lets the headless body of Sarnol fall to the ground. Knyana you watch, knowing that could have been you. You too left your home and clan, all for the Blood.

Slag and War feel delirious relief as the blood coats your body and axe.

Erky makes a gagging sound.

What now?

The Return to Adderport

There is a headless body lying at your feet and you are surrounded by 11 other bloody, mutilated corpses.
WhiteRecluse, Rourgh, Slag, Knyana, Lucan, and Erky are present.

What do you do?

The Return to Adderport

Continue to revel in the blood until someone suggests something else. If we leave for town, I will follow along.

The Return to Adderport

turn into gorillian after asking for help to clear the bodies from the road…then force march back to the Inn and Sirkill. When we get closer to town I will turn to mist…

The Return to Adderport

Wait, where’s Brill Blade?

I’m cool with leaving the bodies out in the open air. All except for this Sarnol head and Sarnol body.

Are we near a body of water? Are we still in the jungle?

The Return to Adderport

You are have been on the main road for a couple of hours now. Still inside the jungle, but the vegetation is thinning. You may be in open air in a mile or 2. No bodies of water nearby. The sun is near the horizon. You may not make it back to Adderport before dark.

WR, you are right Brillblade is not in the area. Erky pipes up, “I saw him leave when you started talking to Sarnol. Assumes he was checking the perimeter or something?” Erky shrugs…

The Return to Adderport

he is a traitor! Maybe a spy…Or Malphus ate him? Spot check on erky…does he look changed further? spot 17….

Maybe better to go at Dark and sneak in like when we arrived.

The Return to Adderport

Oh hell no! If Brillblade has betrayed us, he is going to be a pile of scrap when I’m done with him.

Slag: “Let’s throw these bodies in the woods. The creatures around here will have a feast!”

Then, I vote we head into town. Sounds like we could get back late, but not too late.

The Return to Adderport

Knyana: You spot check Erky. You see a black tongued Zil (gnome) glaring at another insinutation that Malphus is controlling him. You don’t see any further changes. You then change into Gorillian form.

Slag-War, Knayana, Lucan: You all start to clear the road of the Emerald Claw soldiers.

WR: stands over the head and body of Sarnol contemplating what to do.

All: You estimate that you are still 4-5hrs from the gates of Adderport.

The Return to Adderport

Slag: “Throw that Emerald scum in the bushes and let’s get going.”

The Return to Adderport

( You said doo-doo. Ha!)

I cut out Sarnol’s tongue, his eyes, his ears, wrap them heavily in some cloth cut from his tunic and put them in my belt pouch.

“Do you mind taking care of the cleanup, team, I have to find Brill Blade.”

I ask Erky which direction he saw Brill Blade going, then fly off in that direction with Rourgh running behind. I’m carrying Sarnol’s head off with me. I’m going to look for signs of Brill Blade passing and track him.

My thoughts… Brill Blade’s probably pissed that I mentioned raising the woman Sosetari from the dead. He’ll have to understand that I was saying whatever I had to in order to pressure the soldier to get the information I wanted.

I’ll make sure Sosetari’s teeth are tucked back in my bandolier, then pull out two similar teeth from Sarnol’s maw and clean them of any remaining flesh or blood as I go.

Tracking Brill Blade =
Spot checks 15, 19, 3 (goocher)
Search checks 32, 40, 38
I’ll fly up higher to get a bird’s eye view at different moments to try to locate him…

Jordan, when I find Brill Blade I imagine you might want to handle that conversation off OP. Shoot me an FB if that’s the case.

The Return to Adderport

All: Knyana, Lucan, Slag, and Erky (somewhat) throw the Emerald Claw bodies into the jungle. WR, flies off to look for Brillblade in the direction that Erky points (down the road in the direction of Adderport).

When you are done disposing of the bodies you (Slag, Knyana, Lucan, and Erky continue down the road in the direction of Adderport.

The Return to Adderport

Knyana, Lucan, Slag, and Erky easily catch up to WhiteRecluse, Brillblade, and Rourgh walking slowly down the road towards Adderport less than a mile from the ambush site. And the sun is beginning to set.

Feel free to post anything that you might do before you reach the gates of Adderport.

The Return to Adderport

When everyone is settled and walking together, I will fly up a mile and go a mile west and fling Sarnol’s fleshy skull far and wide into the woods. Then rejoin the group.

The Return to Adderport

I will try to understand what the mark on my face means. Is it still hurting? Do I feel different in anyway? Do I have an impulse to use some strange new ability?

The Return to Adderport

Your group continues to travel to town.

Slag: The mark on your face in an irritant, like a scratch you can’t quite itch. It is actually a new type of sensation for Slag. Another new sensation is the slight pulse you feel from it when touching it – similar to a very slow heart beat.

The Return to Adderport

Your group reaches Adderport with no further trouble. If you remember, Adderport is divided into 3 separate walled sections. Adderport proper is on the water with the harbor outside its walls, which is where the Swift Wind is anchored. The other two separate walled sections of the city are located 1/2 mile from the city proper on the Eastern Road and the Northern Road (which is where you are coming from).

The sun has set and the moon and stars are out. The Walking Dead walk on deadened limbs and approach the gate – which is locked. Brillblade is on his contruct mount, while the rest of you are walking I assume. (Remember Sachmo if you use your mask, you emit light). All of you are in humanoid form, except for Knyana who is in gaseous form.

The guards are apologetic, but no one is allowed entry after sunset. They suggest heading to the harbor. Many who don’t make it into the city before nightfall (and who don’t have a boat) congregate there.

What do you do??

The Return to Adderport

“Brillblade is on his contruct mount,…” <—-??? Rourg???

Will Sur Kil be at the harbor? Either way, it seems like a reasonable option…

The Return to Adderport

If we go away from the guards Knyanna will suggest she and Lucan gasuous form to the inn to see if Sirkill is there?

The Return to Adderport

As you’ve seen before, Brillblade call forth a mount of rock, earth, and metal to serve him as a steed.

PS: they are spelled “Sur’kil” and “Brillblade”! ARGH! :-p

The Return to Adderport

Yes, Brillblade is a paladin. Has ability to call mount.

I’m cool with going toward the harbor for some community. Could be a good source of trouble or protection. Either way, I’m down. I’ll walk the distance with Axeman, Brillblade, and Rourgh.

The Return to Adderport

Sounds like a fine idea, Knyanna! Maybe you can let him know we’re at the harbor…

The Return to Adderport

WhiteRecluse, Rourgh, Brillblade, and Slag: You head around to the harbor side of Adderport Proper. Here you see a few dozen people huddled in different groups around campfires and tents. Some tell stories, many are smoking pipes and drinking, and you see a few bodies slumped unconscious against the city wall with empty bottles still in their hands.
Every once and a while, a medium sized door in the Harbor Gate opens and the guards let a tipsy sailor out of the city to stumble back to their ship.

Knyana and Lucan: You two are easily able to mist above the wall and the Wall Guard and slip into the streets of Adderport. Once in your normal forms, you easily make your way to Shirev’s Manor to inquire about Sur’kil. The halfing attendent inside asks your names. Once given, he says, “Ah, yes. He directed me to give you this letter if ones such as yourselves requested him.”
The letter states that Sur’kil is continuing some of his research aboard the Swiftwind, which is anchored in Adder Bay, and awaits your return there.
You thank the attendent and leave.
Given this info, what do you do?

The Return to Adderport

Adder bay is the harbor I assume? Lucan and I mist out of the city and once safe away transform back to ourselves. We find our companions…

Knyanna" This smells like a trap. We should locate the swift wind and someone either invisible (will took to Erky) or as mist should make sure Sur Kil isnt being held by the emerald claw. If it is safe then return with the news and we can all go together to the ship.." Thoughts?

The Return to Adderport

“Your mist idea sounds good. If it is the Emerald Claw holding him, I’ll slaughter them all!!”

The Return to Adderport

At Knyana’s suggestion, Erky initially shirks at the suggestion of invisibly infiltrating the ship. But then remembers his new found “power” and straightens up, ready to take on the challenge. Then Slag suggests Knyana and Lucan use mist form to spy on the SwiftWind. Erky, then pipes up, “I have a friend who could could scope the ship out for us.” He becons to the wall and a large, black crow swoops from the wall and lands on Erky’s shoulder. “What do you think?”

The Return to Adderport

“That would work fine if everybody was standing on the deck, but we might find out more if we could get deeper in the ship.”

The Return to Adderport

“Does anyone think wisdom in waiting until daytime to approach? Perhaps night time will cover more deviance… Or is there a way to send a message to Sur’Kil on the Swift Wind to ask him to meet us at a neutral location? I agree it could be a trap set by the Emerald Claw. Or it’s quite possible that Sur’Kil is affiliated with the Emerald Claw. We should also consider the possibility that Sur’Kil might want us eliminated after returning his treasures in a way to cover his tracks if others are seeking the same artifacts, which we know they are.”

All surveillance and infiltration attempts are cool with me. Let’s start with the aerial surveillance then if all looks calm, send in the invisible gnome.

The rest of us will have to look for a land/dock path to be within sight of the ship, but still relatively hidden from people aboard the ship.

to Erky “how long does your invisibility power last. You’ll need it for quite a while to move carefully and quietly enough.”

The Return to Adderport

Erky says, “How would I get to the ship?”

Remember that the bigger ships including the Swift Wind, are anchored out in the bay. You took row boat from the Swift Wind to the docks.

Erky: “How about I send my friend along with misty Knyana and Lucan? That way we’ll know if they run into trouble. How does that sound?”
“I also, question Sur’kil’s involvement with the Emerald Claw. Sur’kil isn’t seem to be Karrnathi. And if he had all those men at his disposal, why go through the extra effort to recruit us? But still doesn’t mean that we should trust him outright, eh?”

The Return to Adderport

mist and search…We go, night is better.

The Return to Adderport

Agreed. Be wary in the aerie.

The Return to Adderport

“To me it doesn’t sound like Sur’kil is working cooperatively with the Emerald Claw, but instead the Emerald Claw found out by spying on Sur’kil.”

The Return to Adderport

Knyana and Lucan walk down to the docks, then mistform down to the water. For those of you who are keeping an eye out on them, once the two of them turn into mist it is harder to distinguish them from dark water of the bay. For those left on shore, once Knyana and Lucan turn to mist, Erky sends his Crow friend off survey.

Knyana after a bit of searching among dozen of so ships in the bay. You spot two House Lyrandar ships at one end of the bay. It is easy to recognize which one of those is the Swift Wind and you head in that direction.

As you approach from the ship you can see a few crew members on the lighted deck. One of the crew seem to be finishing up some maintenance, while a couple seem to be posted on watch. From your vantage point/approach you saw 3 crew members on deck total, and no sign of Sur’Kil. By staying close to the water, you are able to make it to the side of the ship without being seen. The Hull does not have any obvious cracks or gaps in it to slip inside, this is a House Lyrandar vessel after all.

Knyana what do you do? If you move closer to the deck please make 3 hide checks for both you and Lucan each.

The Return to Adderport

Sorry, I should also mention that you noticed lamplight coming from windows at the front portion of the ship, recalling from your previous voyage it is known as the forecastle.

The Return to Adderport

I will stay close to the ship and water making my way around to the bow and make listen checks at the window. If no luck will move away from the ship in the darkness of the water, rise up above the ship and float to it from above and desend to the openning of the quaters Sr kil was last remembered…3spots anyway…21, 19. 30 listens…`14,27,16..hide checks 22,25,18

Lucan will move around the ship and make listen checks…close to the ship and very slow…17,nat 20(30),26

The Return to Adderport

You both maintain absolute silence and your gaseous forms remain hidden as you begin to scout out the ship. As you move, you stay alert. By the sounds of the ship it appears that most of the crew is either asleep already or in Adderport enjoying themselves.

You move to exam the 2 lighted windows of the forecastle. First listening, you hear no sounds. Then you chance a glance in the first window. You see Sur’kil seated at a desk hunched over a book. There is a lamp on the desk as well as a stack of other books and scrolls. Three small/medium sized crates sit next to the desk. Two are open and have books and scrolls peeking out the top.

The Return to Adderport

Sounds like no drama to me, he just went out on his ship to study.

The Return to Adderport

Is there a crack in the window to get through? If so I will move into the room Lucan too and I will transform to myself. Lucan will remain mist for surprise in case we are attacked. If no way in by the window will go through the ship carefully and quietly as mist, very slowly.

Will tell Sir Kil about the ambush and the need to return to the ship under cover of night…

The Return to Adderport

Yes, your misty form is able to seep into the cabin. Lucan follows. (Remember mist form doesn’t mean invisible). As your misty form sublimates, Sur’kil whips around with a wand pointed in your direction, ready to loose a spell. Upon seeing your face, Sur’kil halts his attack. “Knyana! You shouldn’t sneak up on an old man like that. My apologies,” Sur’kil says as he pockets the wand, “Where are the others? Is everything alright?”

You explain to Sur’kil about the ambush. He is surprised to that information and acts quickly.
“Quick! I will have the crew take the row boat to shore and pick up your friends.” Sur’kil moves out of the room and the crew shortly is in the water rowing.

Knyana, do you go with?

The Return to Adderport

I will stay with Sir Kil and say outloud “lucan will go with the boat and I will stay with you”. Lucan turns to bat form and flies to our friends leading them to the boat dock to be picked up but will stay in shadows till the boat is closer. After everyone is in safe Lucan will bat swarm back to the ship, mist into the room of Sir Kil and wait for the others…

The Return to Adderport

Lucan: Lucan follows the boat, but he also notices a familiar looking black crow flying on ahead of him. The Lyrandar crew gets the boat easily to shore. And the rest of your companions seem to be ready a waiting for them.

Knyana: While waiting for your companions, Sur’kil is able to get the Ship Cook to prepare a small meal and he brings in 9 chairs for the lot of you to recline in. “Please, feel free to ret your feet,” He says.

WR, Slag, Rourgh, Erky, Brillblade: Erky informs the rest of you, _"Knyana and Lucan have found Sur’kil. He is safe on the Swift Wind_. They are sending a boat for us now."
A couple minutes later, the Lyrandar dingy comes into view, picks you up, and brings you out to the Swift Wind.

All: You arrive on the Swift Wind and the crew directs you to a cabin in the forecastle. Sur’kil, Knyana, and a table of appetizers greet you once you step into the cabin.

“Greetings, friends, please sit,” Sur’kil says with anticipation. “What discoveries have you made?” He pauses as he notices the 2 empty chairs and then his eyes land on the acidic mark stretched across Slag’s face.
“Oh, I see that you have….changed, Slag. How did you obtain such a mark? And where are your other 2 companions? I must have a thorough account of the expedition. I must know about everything – traps, creatures, anything of note. Please do not leave any detail out.” He readies a quill and scroll.

The Return to Adderport

Knyanna asks “have you seen this mark before?” Tell me what it means? curse, dragon mark? there are many guesses but we have had no time to identify"…

Knyanna looks to WR and Slag…“shall I tell the tale?”

The Return to Adderport

For the sake of brevity, please just let me know if either: You tell Sur’kil all the details of your travels – locale, environment, foes, traps, etc. Or if you tell Sur’kil the partial truth, then tell me what details you are leaving out.

The Return to Adderport

Slag: “The morning after we left that temple, my face got this mark and it felt like it was burning. Do you know what it is?”

The Return to Adderport

Sur’kil replies, “My inital assessment is that is remarkably similar to a dragonmark. But you are the first warforged that I have ever heard of acquiring one. But please, let us start from the beginning and work our way through. The slightest details may help unlock this quandary.”

The Return to Adderport

Knyanna will tell the tale in full with detail and drama emphasizing the unity of the group as it is now and from room to room. Will leave out the ritual with Breetaw…The rest will be in full…“what questions do you have?”

The Return to Adderport

Sur’kil takes the information in with eagerness and at many points surprise. He asks you to set the relics on his desk when you mention them. When you get to the part about you and Slag receiving the painful marks, Sur’kil asks to see the mark on your leg as well and inquires if any other of the party were marked in a similar way. It takes you a solid 1 1/2 hours to recount the events.

Upon finishing your account, Sur’kil looks thoughtful, “Hmmm. It seems you have had quite an interesting expedition to say the least. As far as these marks are concerned, I would ask that you permit me to examine them tomorrow that I may better understand if they are indeed aberrant dragonmarks and possibly uncover their function or curse.” Eying you carefully, he continues, “This story reminds me of another tale from long ago. In the course of previous research, I learned of a group of explorers of the Q’barran peninsula. Five of the members of this group were said to have all simultaneously developed the so-called aberrant dragonmarks in the course of an expedition. Such an event would be rare enough, but one true dragonmarked among their number claimed to see her mark change in shape at the same time. What came of them, I do not know. I will need to some time to confirm the accuracy of this tale, to research your situation, and examine these marks.”

Sur’kil ponders, "It is curious that the Emerald Claw showed up, yet also demanded an object named the Demon’s Eye… most peculiar. I am surprised. This is definitely an intriguing turn of events. I have no idea how they knew of your mission or your hour of arrival. Perhaps, your “missing” companions were merely spies for the Order? Regardless, it seems that I am not the only one interested in the secrets of Kha’shazul."

“Please, in the meantime spend the night on the ship, then take up more comfortable lodging in your rooms at Shirev’s Manor for the next 2 days and feel free to resupply as needed. If you are agreeable I would ask to examine Slag tomorrow morning and Knyana at noon tomorrow. I will need sometime to research your situation as well and perhaps uncover what this Demon’s Eye may be.”
“Here is the remainder of your payment. And the amount due to your 2 missing companions.” Sur’kil sets down 9 small bags each filled with 70 platinum (700gp worth). “These relics are most interesting as well! I will have an additional recompense payment for such a find when we meet next. But it is late and I will not keep you any longer.”

Please answer any questions that Sur’kil may have asked. Add any other comments or questions if you wish to ask them now.

The Return to Adderport

Good to go. Want to talk with my companions again.

When we can speak alone again… “Do you all want to go stake out the Emerald Claw hideout and make them bleed? I know where it is.”
“We should take time tomorrow to unload bags and items and sell off anything we don’t need, perhaps shop for some magic…”

The Return to Adderport

Knyanna agrees with Sir Kil examining the mark further and would be interested if he is willing in reading any literature on the subject as well. “I am well educated and have traveled farther than you know. I am willing to help for the days we are here?”

Lucan has his bag of holding filled to the brim with stuff, we need to sell. Can give the list and you can get me the sum of it, but if there are items people want or want to see let me know.

The Return to Adderport

Knyanna says she would need to know how far as she would like to get back to Sharn soon to finish all affairs there and then on to New Trumpeton to raise up your army Slag…If it will be a short journey I am willing to rid ourselves of the emerald scum

The Return to Adderport

To Sur’kil: "I am willing for you to look me over, so long as you can explain this “puzzle”.
To Knyana(concerning New Trumpeton): “I am merely a figurehead.”

The Return to Adderport

to Slag, “maybe but whatever the reason for their loyalty to you, they wish for a leader and find that quality in you. Not just to rule over or command but to help them gain what they feel you have…freedom in mind and body. They wish to be ruled by no other than their own will. You can help them and in the process take down House Kaneth.”

The Return to Adderport

Anyone up for sacking some Emerald Claw bad kitties?

The Return to Adderport

Erky pipes up, “Where is their supposed hideout? If it is in Adderport, won’t we have to wait until morning? It it is outside of Adderport, I would rather wait. It is late and I am tired!”

The Return to Adderport

Let me know what your guys immediate plans are. Cheers.

The Return to Adderport

Yes, fine, let’s sack the Emerald Claw.

I did tell Sur’kil that he could take a look a the scar on my face….

The Return to Adderport

oops, sorry. I noticed now that Sur’kil said he would look at them tomorrow.

The Return to Adderport

Ok. You guys are going to sack the Emerald Claw ruffians. When? Remember it is close to midnight now and the City is locked down until morning.
Waiting? Sneaking into the city? Other? Let me know.

Brillblade says, “I will not seek vengeance against the Claw at this time. You and I will be parting ways in the morning. I have spoken with the Artificer about this already.”

The Return to Adderport

I need to rest for spells but if you feel it is better now then lets go..less chance of retreat further if we hit them wounded

The Return to Adderport

Maybe Brillblade should leave now since he has no interest in defending his artificer from those who attacked us first

The Return to Adderport

Brillblade, “Creature, I do not expect you to understand. I have not brought the Flame against you for the sake of the Artificer.”

The Return to Adderport

Who is wounded? Us or them? Did you use a lot of spells when we encountered them on the road?

If Brillbalde will not assist, and the rest of us want to go right now, we might consider leaving Rourgh and Brillblade here on the boat til morning, then the rest of us could fly in over the wall. Though that would draw a lot of attention with Slag’s horse and my mask. Alternatively, I could mist in. Perhaps I could give Slag my spider climb cloak and turn him invisible to climb over the wall- though he might still be noisy.

Thoughts on the escapade?

The Return to Adderport

Oh, forgot Erky.
“Hey, Erky, how do you and Malfus fly?”

He might have to go invisible on Slag’s back over the wall.

The Return to Adderport

Erky: “Malphas does not have the ability to fly, just invisible. Do you really want to do this tonight? I still haven’t gotten all the insects out of my belongings…errrmmmmm. If you go I’ll tag along, but lets not get on the wrong side of the city guards!”

The Return to Adderport

So is your group going to exact revenge yet this night?

Need some input, yo.

The Return to Adderport

to Brillblade.." You address me wrongly. As a warforged you should understand the significance of treating your companions with the respect that they deserve. You have been no help this quest and worse yet have impeded our progress at times with threats..intimidation..subordination..and the worst of all sloth. You have done nothing and in so have not helped your artificer." For your own sake turn now and leave the ship. You will have no such pardon if we cross again. You know too much already and no doubt will turn on your artificer because you are a coward and less than a warforged…you are a scared machine. Go now or you will die this night."

The Return to Adderport

Brillblade to Knyana: “Do not be mistaken – you are not my companion. I have no doubts that you would try to end my life even though I have not brought arms against you. I can see the foul energy that gives you life, you can not hide it from me. I will not intrude on Sur’kil’s hospitality by quarreling with you this night. Nor do I wish to anger the Lyrandar. Neither will I do this for the sake of the Artificer, even if I do not agree will whom he keeps company with. Fear not, Undead, I will stay on the ship while you go out and exact vengeance on the Claw. By morning, I will be gone. For this night, I stay, your threats fall empty against the Flame.”

Brillblade to Sachmo: “Artificer, please keep you companion from regretful action.”

Jeannie, please voice your opinion on when/where/the plan to sack the Emerald Claw.

The Return to Adderport

“Anybody committing violence toward one another will have me to deal with!”

The Return to Adderport

Emerald Claw tonight…bat warm to the place and mist in to infiltrate and get suprise on them…

Jordan…Dont be mad about my last comments you did have Brillblade address me and provoke me…

to Brillblade “I dont believe your lies and care not your oppinion, only the cost of your presence..” Knyanna to Sir Kil “I take my leave tonight and will look for your summons at the inn to look at my mark if you choose.”

The Return to Adderport

Slag: “Sachmo, Brillblade should have left our group a long time ago. He has repeatedly made threatening motions and remarks at Knyana and has created conflict with me. I know you have some agreement with him, but once one crosses the line, they get what they have coming. He knew what his words and actions would do. I believe that if anyone is going to raise a weapon, it would be Brillblade…”

To Brillblade: “Why don’t you do it? You believe you need to bring so-called justice? Then do it! You talk of the Silver Flame and how we should live, yet you are the only one starting hate here. And now you’ve turned us against you. If you feel you need to bring some supposed force from a silver flame to us, then do it!”

The Return to Adderport

Knyana – you all are having this conversation away from Sur’kil.

Brillblade: “Arkenheld, I have already stated that I will not bring my arms to bear this night. Why do you provoke this? You are acting contrary to your Artificer’s wishes. I am not wrong to despise a creature that is sustained by the lifeforce of others – many call those beings parasites. Do not despise me because the Flame allows me to see things that you may be blinded to. Perhaps War, has compromised your thinking. I am leaving the group with your Artificer’s consent, peaceably.”
Brillblade heads to one of the rooms that your group stayed in on voyage up here.

Jeannie: I’m not mad. Just roleplaying!!

Bill, Jeannie, Jeremy: Sounds like everyone is in on sacking the Emerald Claw hideout yet that night. We will resume play on Sunday starting here. Fell free to have conversations/ planning for your escapade.

The Return to Adderport

Before he heads to the room:

“Liar! You’ve repeatedly made threatening remarks about Knyana, and when you threaten any member of our group, then I must confront you. You are the one provoking us with your comments and disrespect. Calling me by the name that rat Merrix dubbed me with is just another sign of your insults. I have met Merrix and been amongst the minions of the Lord of Blades. I have died and been resurrected, and I tell you that I saw no Silver Flame on the other side. Perhaps you are blinded by some story of a false god. You’re just another slave to another master. I am far from blind. I have seen things you would never believe. So, I can see that you’ll never understand where we are coming from and why we are tolerant to more than you are. Don’t tell me how to treat my artificer, you have no idea what ground you tread on. He wants what he wants, but I will not tolerate spit in my face. You’ve been far less than an asset to our group, and your leave is welcome. We do not need your intolerance, disrespect, and ineffectiveness. You have questioned all of us for our morality and way of life and done little to purposefully serve your charge. You may have admired the stories of my legend, but you’ll never see the purpose of my accomplishments. Go back to your man-made god.”

The Return to Adderport

Brillblade turns: “I do not have to defend the Flame, Slag, it defends itself. But you are indeed not the warforged legend I learned of. Keep it in your memory though, that it was I who sought and found your Artificer when you could not. I can see now that you only mark value by the the blood one spills or if one complies with your wishes. I fear for the warforged of New Trumpeton if they see what I see, for it is they, not I, who are the Order of Arkenheld.”

To WR: “My apologies to you for striking a cord of dissonance in your group. Farewell.”

The Return to Adderport

“I hope to see you again, friend.”

The Return to Adderport

Brillblade: “I will talk with you no further. Your ignorance is apparent.”
