Jorberron: Reborn

The Dying Son

Welcome aboard!

Pirate ship

A hairy, hulky, but well dressed man welcomes you.
“Greetings. I am Quartermaster Ritter and this be Capt. Dris’lock, welcome aboard the Dying Son. The next best thing to them Lyrandar. Bucket here will show you to yer bunks while we finish loadin’ our cargo.”

Capt. Dris’lock appears as salty as the rest of his crew but moves with the mannerisms of a nobleman.
After some introduction and diplomacy by Knyana on behalf of the group, The Justice Keep, Capt. Dris’lock says, “While on this vessel, it’s my word first. Quartermaster Ritter here second. You have the look of being able to take care of yourselves, but on the sea, it is best if we all watch each others backs. Now… Yer scholarly friend, has paid us to escort you ‘round for 3 months. So what’s our headin’?”

After a short conversation the group decides to head to the city of Regalport to search to begin the search for Jheamast’s tomb. Capt. Drislock says that they should be able to get there in the better part of 3 weeks.

DAY 1

The Dying Son finishes loading its cargo and sets sail out of Adder Bay. The crew is fairly busy getting the ship set for the voyage. You each have your own quarters below deck, the rooms have a door but no windows.
Those of you that go back on deck see Quartermaster Ritter and the Capt. discussing something after which Capt. Dris’lock approaches you. If none of you are above deck then the Capt. requests your presence.

Dris’lock: “Well, since we’ll be together for quite a bit, there is something you all need to know about one of my crew. Please, remain calm.”
Dris’lock nods at Ritter who takes off his bandana and shifts into a leonine humanoid who towers over you and the rest of the crew at 7’3". Ritter still has a salty look to him but is also exceptionally groomed. He speaks with a trace of a leonine accent.
Ritter: “My apologies for the deception. Jus’ don’t want to attract too much attention while in port.”
Dris’lock eyes you and asks, “Will this be a problem for any o’ you?”

Reactions and what will you do for the rest of the day?

The Dying Son

“No problem here.”

The Dying Son

Jordan what is a Leonine?

The Dying Son

Leonine, definition – of or resembling a lion.

If you check out the Characters Section, you will see descriptions and pics for new NPCs.

The Dying Son

J, et al.- Also need to know what Slag plans on doing to occupy his time for the day. Converse with crw members, stare out at open water, stare at the deck, bug his companions, set the ship on fire, pout? Just some ideas.
Also, if anyone bought actual magic items in Adderport – let. me. know. soon.

You each have your own quarters below deck. They appear are separate from the crew quarters and look to regularly be used as cargo area. Ropes, straps, and nets line the walls. The only furnishings in each room are a hammock, a desk, a chair, and a lantern. The only cargo in these rooms in yourself and what you brought with you. Which in WR’s case includes a couple boxes on magic item components.

The Dying Son

I’ll alternate between my quarters and the bow of the ship, looking out over the sea. If someone decides to interact with me, I’ll talk, but otherwise I’ll mind my own business unless called on.

The Dying Son

Sorry, y’all. Dad had a seizure on Wednesday night, it’s been a bit frantic and unsure since then. He’s back home now and seems to be doing well.

Day one: WR
Leonine is not bothersome to me. Actually sounds like a fitting addition to our team if he could be swayed.

Are there locks on the quarter doors? I’ll set Rourgh to growl at anything that jiggles the knob on our door. Even louder if someone actually opens the door besides me.

I’ll begin prep of setting up shop for first magic item creation (TBA). I’ll only gather enough components out of the boxes for the current item so that stuff doesn’t shift all around the cabin en route. Khlor will flex his arms ready to sink his mits into something he can do well.

Jordan, Hopefully I can get you a list of items later today.

The Dying Son

I will engage in conversations and diplomacy with Drislock and Ridder when appropriate seeking knowelege of political history, religion, terrain, personal stuff like family etc…. I will offer help if anyone gets hurt during our trip and heal them or mend spell for minor ship repairs if appropriate. Otherwise will hang in my room. Read Book of Havak Tor Vak more slowly for fun…Will meditate on my last month from my death to now recalling thoughts and feelings and also try to consentrate on my link to Lucan and Breetaw.

The Dying Son

I’ll start on a Cloak of Resistance +3 for Slag and pass it on to Khlor. This is 3,750 in GP, 4 days, and 270 exp.
After that’s passed off to Khlor on day 1, I’ll create a Silence scroll. This is 150 GP, 12 xp, 4 hours. then two Dimensional Anchor scroll- 262 gp, 3 hours, 21 exp. each

Day 2 enchanting Knyana’s masterwork gloves with claw tips of adamantine and making her natural claw attacks magical. Need to gather stats for that.

Day 4 I want to begin on the wand holder for Slag or I need to see if we have enough resources for that.

Other items in the cue:
Bag of Holding- 2775 gp, 3 days, 222 exp.
two Hats of Disguise- 675 gp, 1 day, 54 exp. each
Gauntlets of Ogre Power- 1,500 gp, 2 days, 120 exp.
Chime of Opening- 1175 gp, 2 days, 90 exp.
Wand of Knock- 1687 gp, 2 days, 135 exp.

I’ve been behind so trying to give you an idea ahead. I still need to work up the full list according to our resources at the time of departure. As part of those resources I’ll require a portable forge suitable for melting down adamantine.

The Dying Son

WR: Let’s pass on the wand holder, since I would need to be able to “use magical device” which I don’t have any ranks in, and would have difficulty making the check anyway.

The Dying Son

Roger that. What else in the meantime?

The Dying Son

WR and Rourgh hole up in their quarters.

Knyana seeks to gain familiarity with the ship, some of the crew, the region.

Slag wanders between bow and his quarters. Though it looks as if he has been pulled into a card game with some of the crew.

I am dealing with each of these in personal messages/conversations. The Dying Son continues to sail on.

KEEP THIS IN MIND WHEN MAKING MAGIC ITEM DECISIONS.

A humanoid-shaped body can be decked out in magic gear consisting of one item from each of the following groups, keyed to which place on the body the item is worn.

•One headband, hat, helmet, or phylactery on the head
•One pair of eye lenses or goggles on or over the eyes
•One amulet, brooch, medallion, necklace, periapt, or scarab around the neck
•One vest, vestment, or shirt on the torso
•One robe or suit of armor on the body (over a vest, vestment, or shirt)
•One belt around the waist (over a robe or suit of armor)
•One cloak, cape, or mantle around the shoulders (over a robe or suit of armor)
•One pair of bracers or bracelets on the arms or wrists
•One glove, pair of gloves, or pair of gauntlets on the hands
•One ring on each hand (or two rings on one hand)
•One pair of boots or shoes on the feet
Of course, a character may carry or possess as many items of the same type as he wishes. However, additional items beyond those listed above have no effect.

Some items can be worn or carried without taking up space on a character’s body. The description of an item indicates when an item has this property.

The Dying Son

Tweaking magic item production after some feedback from Jordan:

Knyana, the amulet that will enhance your natural attacks is prohibitively expensive. Suggest we concentrate on improving your scimitar instead.

Does anyone have ideas of items that will help Knyana better defend against turning?

Slag,
Do you have anything that takes up the cloak slot?

Does anyone already have their hat slot filled? Jordan, I’m not currently using a hat of disguise (gave it to Slag). My mask counts as goggles. I have all the above mentioned slots filled except hat and rings. I’d like to make these hats of disguise with tougher illusion magic that requires a higher saving throw DC of 20. How much should I add for that?

Jordo,
Switch my day 3 to 1 hat of Disguise with higher DC
Day 4 to Wand of Knock
Day 5- hand off Wand to Khlor, WR begins Bag of Holding
Day 6- hand off Bag of Holding to Khlor, WR begins Gauntlets of Ogre Power (Slag can you use these?)

The Dying Son

I don’t have anything in my cloak slot.
My hat slot is filled.
I could use the gauntlets of ogre power, but would they be more helpful to Knyana?
We were talking about a portable hole and beefing up my axe (bane vs. constructs).

The Dying Son

J, keep in mind that some warforged components take up specific slots. Check the Eberron Campaign Setting for specifics. I think that a docent takes up the amulet slot? I’ll have to double check later. And I’ll have to double check this too, but I think that if you put gaunlets on, then your docent given “spiked gauntlets of wounding” natural attack will be null.

The Dying Son

Er… pass on the gauntlets then…

Jordan. First you don’t want me reading the Eberron books, then you’re telling me to… make up your mind! ;)

The Dying Son

Bill, Hat of Disguise with higher DC will add 750gp/1 DC to the MARKET price.
So to increase a Hat of Disguise to DC 20 will add a MARKET price of +6000gp.

You’ll have to figure out your and Khlor’s schedule from that.

The Dying Son

The above is supposed to read “+750gp/ +1 DC”

The Dying Son

Waiting on getting the magic item schedule hammered out before moving forward….

The Dying Son

Sorry, all. This has been a pain in the butt trying to understand all y’all’s inventory and conflicting items. Hope your characters are more forthcoming in game so the WR can rawk the components stores and apothecaries to get weird items.

DAY 1 – WR: Cloak 3, Khlor: nothing
DAY 2 – WR: scrolls: Silence, Dimensional Anchor x 2. Khlor: Cloak +3
DAY 3 – WR: Hat of Disguise regular DC to increase later
DAY 4 – WR: Wand of Knock, Khlor finishes Cloak
3
DAY 5 – WR: Wand of Divine Interdiction, Khlor finishes Wand of Knock
DAY 6 – WR: Bag of Holding, Khlor finish Wand of Divine Interdiction
Day 7 – WR: Wand of Repair Moderate Damage, Khlor Bag of Holding
DAY 8 – WR: finish Wand of Repair Moderate Damage, Khlor finish Bag of Holding

Slag,
If you want to cut some money my way, I can make the Repair Damage Wand into a Serious or Critical.

Jordan,
This will cut me loose of 12,935 gp (6,000 of which was party funds, 3,000 was personal for Knyana’s gear, the rest was my personal cash on hand). This cost me 951 experience. These items are all locked in except for the possibility of increasing the potency of the Repair wand if Slag is amiable.

SLAG, let me know how much gp you want to throw in the kitty. I haven’t seen y’all talking about shopping for magic in town before we left, so if yer relyin on me to make you strong, I need your GOLD!

The Dying Son

Tell me how much I’ll need to pay for you to bump up the wand.

Also, I HAVE talked about magic items I want and haven’t seen them mentioned:
- Bane for my axe
- Portable hole

The Dying Son

Sounds good. The only thing is what type of Bag of Holding are you making? There are 4, each with successive costs.
I will count this as the plan for the 1st 8 days. Let us know if you and Slag work something out for beyond that.

Remember you have close to 3 weeks on the ship. And you don’t have to spend successive days creating if you don’t want to. But you can as well.

Day 2 is coming…

The Dying Son

DAY 2

Weather: Fair, with a warm breeze from the south.
Seas: calm

With over a day out of Adderport and calm weather it seems that the crew and ship have settled in for the voyage.

Some crew perform maintenance and cleaning, other steer the ship, but most seem to have time to relax. A couple groups form and play cards.

WR is holed up in his quarters. What do you do Knyana and Slag?

The Dying Son

Same as day 1.

The Dying Son

Sorry, greedy Slag. You mentioned at the gaming table last time a bag of holding and a something to help with your saving throws. So I was working through those items first. Sheesh! I can’t make them all.

Do you want me to give up on the Bag of Holding?
Increasing the Repair wand would cost 4219 gp.

Portable Hole is beyond my current capability.

Okay. Your axe is already a +1 item, right? so to give it another +1 ability like Bane effectively makes it a +2 item so we have to pay the difference of 6,000 gp, halvsies for creation-1/4 since I’m awesome = 2,250 gp you’d need to come up with.

The Dying Son

Sorry. Maybe I misread the tone/information here.

I can’t afford to bump up the wand, even if it were the only thing I was doing. Sorry.

I can afford the bane on my axe, and would happy to pay you 225 platinum for doing it.

The Dying Son

If it helps I can add some for the cost of either the bag of holding or the cloak.

The Dying Son

knyana will look for opportunity to spend time with “one eye” and maybe the girl steering the ship from last week? Will mention to WR id there is time of the card games…maybe some dagger slots should be introduced?

The Dying Son

In Slag’s defense, he did mention the bane and portable hole in an earlier post.

Slag: You continue to wander the ship back and forth from your quarters to the bow. Similar to yesterday, you can occasionally see ships off on the horizon. Also, you can definitely make out land to the east. Later in the day Seagrass invites you to play Tonk again.

Knyana: Tress, it seems has the afternoon shift at the wheel of the ship. One-Eye, takes breakfast with the captain then heads below deck. Who are you going to seek out first?

The Dying Son

I’m in n the Tonk again.

The Dying Son

I will go to the cabin of one eye knock on the door announce " Sir it is Knyana a traveler on the ship. The captain mentioned that you are knowelegable of the region more than anyone on the ship. Would you be willing to have a visit while we travel?"

The Dying Son

I got yer portable hole, pig pile.

DAY 9: WR begins BANE on Slag’s axe, Khlor plays fetch with Rourgh
Day 10: WR stretches explores the boat while invisible and in other skulking ways- high fives self for the grand scheme he has set in motion, Khlor works on axe
DAY 11: Khlor finishes axe.

The Dying Son

Don’t forget that you have some rolls to make before these magic items are confirmed…in person!

And we are still on Day 2.

The Dying Son

Okay, in person. Does that mean on Sunday evening?

The Dying Son

Perhaps Sunday or the next time we play.

The Dying Son

DAY 3

Weather: Fair, a bit cooler with a strong, warm breeze from the south.
Seas: small swells, slightly choppy

Some crew perform maintenance and cleaning, others steer the ship. It seems as though there is always at least 1 card game being played on the ship at all times. It seems that Capt Drilock and Quartmaster Ritter always take breakfast together in the Capt’s cabin, with One-Eye sometimes joining them.

As you sail north, there is definitely a large island/land mass to the East. To the south and west the Q’barran jungles fade away on the horizon.

You all realize that you haven’t talked to one another for a few days.

WR and Khlor continue to work on magic items. What do you do Knyana and Slag?

The Dying Son

Slag pulls Knyana aside:
“Have you felt anything from your dragonmark?”

The Dying Son

nothing…tried to feed it blood to see if something but I am dead so the mark is dead…Although Sur Kil said there is a glimmer? What about you? Feel anything? Have you studied it?

The Dying Son

I feel a pulse. It felt like it was syncing up with War, so I had to stop.

The Dying Son

what does that mean? Like linking up with war instead of you? How did you connect with it?

The Dying Son

The dragonmark had a heartbeat and the heartbeat I hear from War sometimes started to beat as one.

The Dying Son

I just focused on it, and touched it.

The Dying Son

ok I will try it…

Knyana focuses on the mark, touches it and closes eyes in concentration…

The Dying Son

Knyana, you feel … nothing. You concentrate harder and for a length of time. The seconds tick by in your head and nothing comes to pass.

The Dying Son

I think mine is dead. I have no use for it, a momento? Maybe if I drink I will feel something but no followers here.

The Dying Son

What else will you 2 do this day?

The Dying Son

Usual routine.

The Dying Son

I will meditate in my room, wander the deck 2x per day and speak to Captain or one eye if they appraoch me. I will also scan the horizon often to see any ships or land marks of interest as we go.

The Dying Son

will attempt to talk to Tress the following day…get to know why she left the Lyrandar ship? etc?

The Dying Son

DAY 4

Weather: Sunny, warm southerly breeze
Seas: small swells

The crew performs various duties around The Dying Son.
Captain Drislock, Ritter, and One-Eye take breakfast together.
Tress takes her day shift at the helm of the ship as usual.

Knyana, you see the Isle of Lorghalan off to the east. With your undead sight and the clearness of the day, you can see a smudge of land off to the north-west. You also take note of Tress at the helm. Message me if you approach her.

WR and Khlor continue to work on magic items. What do you do Slag?

The Dying Son

I join Knyana looking off the edge of the ship and contemplate what dangers lie ahead of us as we search for answers regarding our mysterious dragonmarks.

The Dying Son

so after all these years Slag? Do you have memories of the past?

The Dying Son

Sometimes I remember too well.

I wonder where we’re going. I wonder if our goals will be met. Our foes are numbering high, and it seems everyone we’ve trusted beside the three of us, has betrayed us. I am thankful for you and Sachmo, but I wonder if the walls are closing in… are we the only ones who aren’t our enemies?

The Dying Son

we have friends and allies in more places than you know…We are strong in our resolve together. We must discuss our goals. We all have things we want but if tomorrow would be your last what would you want to have accomplished? I believe there is one underlying goal and that is justice. In one small way or another each of our paths have been set due to manipulators and men and woman in powerful seats using or trying to destroy us. This says to me that a balance change is needed? I have returned from the dead in order to shift this to the right balance. We should talk together and seek to help eachother achieve justice but also allow those who may experience what we have the free will to exact their own way and realize their power. How may I help you my friend to amend and rebuild and refine? How can I support you in seeking justice?

The Dying Son

(sighs) For me, the only goal is to help the warforged establish a culture beyond Lord of Blades and House Cannith. For them to realize that they can have a peaceful existence with “fleshies” and not be treated as a servant slave-race by Merrix. The only way I see that happening is if we return to the Mournlands, strengthen the forces at New Trumpeton (an outpost of my followers in the Mournlands), and push the Lord of Blades out of power. This may take forces beyond the warforged. Perhaps, allies of other backgrounds. Would you be able to raise an army of dead warriors or call powerful spiritual beings to aid us in pushing back against the Lord of Blades’ followers? The liberated warforged claiming control of the Mournlands and rebuilding an empire there doing trade with other kingdoms may be the best way for our race to carve a niche in this world. I know that my mission may be far from yours, but you should always know that I can be a champion for your cause if I am called upon…

The Dying Son

my cause is your my friend. I wish to help you establish a free warforged nation free of “fleshie” rule. Although I must complete one small task in Sharn I am willing to wait in order to fullfill your call. I believe it is a true one. I believe the artificer also wishes to help. Once we have fullfilled our call to Sur Kil I believe we must go to the Mourn Lands.

The Dying Son

Well, once we resolve this Dragonmark problem, I will gladly aide you…

The Dying Son

Day 5

Weather: Slight Winds, mostly cloudy, fair temperature
Seas: slight chop

Crew: Duties, maintenance, most seem to be enjoying the pleasantness of the voyage thus far. You are gaining familiarity with the faces aboard the vessel – both those you’ve spoken and those you haven’t. There is a opportunity to approach any deckhand throughout the day.

What do ya’ll do?

The Dying Son

still talk with captain and try to talk with Tess. Also will wonder about and listen in on any talk or rumor moving about…Will spend time in meditation and will talk with Slag if available? Will test my empathic link to Breetaw and see if I decifer anything? Will map out the ship and where life boats are, cabains, dining hall, storage etc to know the ship throughout….

The Dying Son

Knyana, send me a message for what subjects you want to approach the captain and/or Tress about, if it is just generalities then let me know what. Also, make a gather info check for “rumors”.
Knyana, you feel nothing from Breetaw. You make round throughout the ship to get to know the layout. Some doors are locked, and although you don’t visit each room you have an idea what sections of the ship hold what – ie. cargo hold, crew quarters, etc.

Slag?

The Dying Son

I continue doing the deck to room trips, as it feels right. If the crew is playing Tonk; I’m in.

The Dying Son

If I have some downtime on this evening after making, I will mosey about the ship. If I see a game of Tonk going on, I will be very interested to learn all the rules and wager some silver pieces. If I see a Leonine guy walking around, I’ll ask my companions what they know about him.

The Dying Son

Slag: You wander about the ship, getting somewhat more comfortable with the layout, the sway of the sea, and the familiar faces. You get in on a game of Tonk with Bucket, Trillo, One-Eye, and someone whom you’ve haven’t played against before, and elf named Silent. The ante is 5 sp, how many hands do you wish to play?

WR: Making magic items takes quite a bit out of you all you body and mind really feel like doing is relaxing. But, getting some fresh sea air seems like a good idea, so you head to the deck. Most of the crew is in the Mess eating dinner. But you do see Quartermaster Ritter on deck.

The Dying Son

5 hands.

The Dying Son

gather info natty 20! plus 13 33. Want to also know where the row boats are….

The Dying Son

If there’s still time, I’m going to go ashore and Gather Info about the Karnathi Wizard, the old dude from the legend, and the journal. Using my Helm of ESP.

The Dying Son

I’m also going to check in on the merchant whom I talked with about purchasing warforged.

The Dying Son
